Luke 6:40 states "A student is not above the teacher, but everyone when fully trained will be like their teacher." Thus Theophany Academy invests heavily in their teachers as leaders whom children will learn to imitate and strive to follow. Both tutors at Theophany Academy are Orthodox Christians with over 10 years experience teaching.
Jeremy Wagner
Jeremy Wagner is an Orthodox Christian, a father of five, and a husband of one. He enjoys camping with his family, raising vegetables and chickens, and reading early Irish saints' lives in the original Latin.
He has over 15 years of full-time classroom experience. Before moving to North Carolina, Jeremy taught at Christ the Savior Academy, an Orthodox Christian classical school in Wichita, Kansas. Before that, from 2010-2018, he taught at Laconia Christian Academy in Laconia, New Hampshire.
He was certified as a Master Teacher by the CiRCE Institute in 2017 and as a Latin Teacher in 2022. He graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts in 2009 with a BA in History and Secondary Education.
Jeremy was raised as a pastor's kid in rural New England. His first experience of classical languages was when his father taught him Latin and Greek roots in his fifth-grade homeschool. It was in college that he discovered the Orthodox Church, and it wasn't until after he had graduated that he learned of the Christian classical renewal and began to dive into Latin and the Great Books in earnest. That initial interest soon grew into an obsession and a calling. Sixteen years later, by God’s grace, few things bring him so much pleasure as learning and teaching the seven liberal arts.
Coley Klaers
Coley is married to Dan Klaers. Together they are raising 5 adorable children to be Theophany Academy graduates and also, with God’s help, saints. Out in the wild, you may find her biking with a wagon of toddlers in tow, reading with a cup of coffee, or perfecting yeast rolls for her family to devour.
Though she began her academic career with an Industrial Engineering BA from UCF, Coley has loved the opportunity a career in teaching has provided to continue learning. Her academic pursuits have included learning ancient Greek and beginning a Masters of Humanities in Great Books. She is now enjoying training in CiRCE’s apprenticeship program.
Upon college graduation, Coley began teaching in 2013 and has taught in both public high school and classical Christian schools. She finds the best parts of teaching are witnessing students excitement when grasping something difficult or awe inspiring for the first time and having conversations about the things that matter beyond the temporal.
She is particularly excited to be at Theophany Academy with her children where they can be formed in the Orthodox Christian faith, participating in the life of the church and becoming more joyfully human.
